Which is why I do not like Office '07. MSoft decided to help me by moving
everything around and put stuff I use all of the time in a place where I
never looked for it before. Frankly, my issue with Vista is pretty much the
same. Apart from the compatibility problems between Vista and my legacy
hardware, my biggest problem with Vista is that they renamed and moved stuff
all over the place. Office '07 does lots of cool stuff that I do not use, so
I have no motivation whatsoever to migrate to it, then add the fact that
they moved and rearranged features that I need almost every time I use
Office, I have no problem telling people to not make the change from Office
'03 to Office '07.
So, Office '07 cannot install over pre-installed Free Trials of itself.
It does not tell you that it found the pre-installed Free Trial Version.
The features have been moved to where they are virtually unfindable. Strike
It does not really matter that the next pitch results in a home run.
I would expect Office '03 to not install over the Office '07 Free Trial
because the '07 package is newer and '03 would not know about it. It would
be nice if it did know, but I am okay with the argument that says it cannot
possibly know. But '07 should be able to automatically find and remove, or
at least find and warn about versions that exist but have to be removed,
before installing. Because of the Free Trial that comes pre-loaded in
virtually every machine, then any version that is not Free should operate
almost like an Upgrade Version where it goes in and looks for the old files
and updates them.
